The Personal Emergency Response System (PERS) is a great but often overlooked benefit for helping older adults live independently in their homes. With the PERS alert device, members and their families can be confident that they have quick access to help if needed.
It provides members with 24/7 access to help in the event of an emergency. Should members need help, either because they fall and can’t get up or just want someone to talk to because they’re lonely, they can press a button to contact whoever they want to come, be it the neighbor, local family member, friend, customer service, or their local emergency service.
Most Medicare Advantage plans include this benefit without extra cost. It covers the installation and the monthly fees. Most plans cover the landline (in-home) and cellular (mobile) options that allow them to go outside their home.
Check your Medicare plan document (EOC) or call plan member service to find out if your plan offers this alert system and what the requirements are to get it. When you’re eligible, you’ll immediately be set up with help from tech support. Right there, you can set up who you want to call in case of an emergency. They will also send you the device free of charge.
